Gatis Upmalis

Gatis Upmalis is a producer with the drive to discover new talent as well as to use established film pros in order to make market oriented motion pictures mainly for theatrical distribution. With masters’ degree in economics and experience of managing Riga Multimedia Center, Gatis Upmalis founded Studio F.O.R.M.A. in 1993. Since the studio has become one of most prominent production companies in the Baltic region. It has produced 6 fiction features, a dozen documentaries, more than 30 corporate and industrial films. The productions of Gatis Upmalis have received 14 National Filmmakers' Union Awards and a number of international prizes including Manfred Salzgeber Prize at Berlinale for the feature GOOD HANDS (2001). Family feature WATERBOMB FOR THE FAT TOMCAT (2003) became a domestic surprise hit and became the European production of the year released in theatres. Family adventure LITTLE ROBBERS (2009) became one of the most internationally acclaimed Latvian films ever. He has produced an Estonian-Belarusian–Latvian co-production LONELY ISLAND (2012) and latest feature tragicomedy THEN IT’S HI!HI! HEE! which has been the most popular Latvian film in 2014!

Gatis Upmalis is working at two family feature film projects development: GRANDDAD, MORE DANGEROUS THAN A COMPUTER and CHRISTMAS TREE MYSTERY.
